The west side of Block Island has a number of fishing spots available. Charlestown beach can hold fish when there is bait coming out of New Harbor on an incoming tide. The sandy bottom in deeper water off of the beach to the south is very good flounder fishing bottom and large flounder can be caught here.
Dorie's and Gracie's Coves have many large rocks which hold the bait that bass like to ambush, but your approach must be careful, as many of these rocks are close to the surface and can be a danger at low tide. As in any area where you are unfamilair with the bottom, a slow approach is best since the damage caused at low speed will be minimal.
A large area of bottom just north of the Southwest Point is also very rocky and can hold fish on an incoming tide. This area is between the first red can and the shoreline, and to the north about a quarter mile.
